WFMW: felt food
The girls and I recently participated in an ornament exchange with some fellow Five in a Row (FIAR) users. Some participants make ornaments that represent one of the children's books in FIAR's book list, and others make winter- or holiday-themed ornaments. We have received some really cute ones!
Since one of the FIAR books we read and enjoyed was Little Nino's Pizzeria, we decided to make pizza ornaments out of felt. I had intended to glue the felt toppings to the felt crusts, but while we were cutting them out, the girls had so much fun playing with them and making pizzas that I decided to send make-your-own pizzas instead (they fit perfectly inside a sandwich baggie).

As you can plainly tell, I didn't use a pattern other than tracing around a dessert plate for the crust. Isabelle was in charge of the tomato sauce, cheese, and green pepper strips, and I made the olives and mushrooms. Note that it's much easier if your scissors are sharp! I wanted to add pepperoni and perhaps some purple onions, but I didn't find the right colors of felt. And my wrist was tired of cutting!
After mailing off our ornaments, we had to return promptly to the craft store for more felt, as the kids wanted to make pancakes and other food. You can find all kinds of examples of felt food online, and many are quite elaborate and require sewing. We kept ours very simple to include my 7-year-old.
Here's a little inspiration to get your creative juices flowing:

- This Etsy store's felt offerings look scrumptious, as do these cookies, this stir-fry, and this set of campfire favorites. (Do a search for felt food, and you'll find many more patterns and play food for sale at Etsy.)
- Design Mom: The PopTarts are my favorite, and the smiling eggs, toast, and bacon are adorable!
- Melissa at One Crafty Mumma has a tutorial for felt ravioli and other felt foods here.

Oh, what fun! I'm sure your recipients loved the pizzas.
Hi -
I linked to you from WFMW. This is outstanding!
I have a ton of felt left over from ornament making. I can't wait to do this with my kids.
Thanks so much!
Holli T.
thanks for posting this and my kids would have LOVED to receive an ornament from you this year, great idea! Melissa3 at FIAR
Totally adorable idea, I love how you made them "make your own"! Thanks for the links as well.
How absolutely adorable! And how fun is it that you left the toppings UNglued so that the other rowing kids can do it themselves? What a truly, truly clever mama you are.
Seeing your ornaments makes me think that maybe, JUST maybe, one year I'll get brave enough for us to participate!
They are so cute. I hear you about cutting it out. I was even trying Paul's work sheers that will cut a seatbelt but they were no match for felt.
Cute idea!
