Spring Reading Thing Update

The Spring Reading Thing has come to a close. I thought I would finish my list this time because I only chose 8 books, but because I read 10 additional books that weren't on my original list, including several nonfiction titles, I still didn't get to cross them all off! I'm currently reading Mansfield Park and will likely be for some time, as it's a slower read than the other Jane Austen books I've read, and I will eventually get to Eventide.

Original SRT List
The Shack (William Young) [my review]
Grace at Bender Springs (Vinita Hampton Wright)
Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen)
The Tiger Rising (Kate DiCamillo)
Dragon Bones (Lisa See)
Death, Deceit, and Some Smooth Jazz (Claudia Mair Burney)
Mansfield Park (Jane Austen) [currently reading]
Eventide (Cindy Martinusen)

Other Books Read:
Finding Hollywood Nobody (Lisa Samson)
Jesus for President (Shane Claiborne and Chris Haw)
We the Purple (Marcia Ford) [my review]
Ruby Among Us (Tina Ann Forkner)
River Rising (Athol Dickson)
All New Square Foot Gardening (Mel Bartholomew)
I Heart Bloomberg (Melody Carlson)
House of Dark Shadows (Robert Liparulo)
Watcher in the Woods (Robert Liparulo)
The Big Picture (Jenny B. Jones)

My favorite book that I read this spring was Pride and Prejudice, which I read previously in another decade. Athol Dickson's River Rising was fantastic, well written, and thought provoking, and I'll definitely be reading all of his other books I can find. Another excellent novel I read was Vinita Hampton Wright's Grace at Bender Springs. Two sequels I read, Claudia Mair Burney's Death, Deceit, and Some Smooth Jazz and Lisa Samson's Finding Hollywood Nobody, were also great fun to read, and I love both of these authors.

On the nonfiction side of the shelf, I'm still pondering Shane Claiborne and Chris Haw's Jesus for President: Politics for Ordinary Radicals, which the authors describe as "a book to provoke the Christian political imagination." It succeeded in doing so and went along nicely with another faith-related political book I read this spring, Marcia Ford's We the Purple.

I would definitely be interested in joining a fall reading challenge. I enjoy participating in reading challenges and am currently hosting my own. If you're looking for an easy, low-commitment reading challenge for the summer, please consider joining the Christy Challenge!

Great job, Shauna! I haven't read Mansfield Park, but I have heard from others that it does take a little while to get through. Thanks again for being part of the challenge!
